I ran around the edge of the dumpster and ducked behind it just as the whatever it was - it was tall, skinny like an actual toothpick and had twelve arms - and I don't even know, but my best guess was that the thing was demonic. "Your plants are always dying," he said, laughing. He looked over at the now completely wilted sunflower on her windowsill and shook his head. "At least I try. Leighton watched as he ran off, playing the hero yet again. She smacked her hand to her forehead, shut her eyes and groaned. "I swear to the gods, if we live through this, I'm going to slap him." She stood there for a moment, trying to figure out what to do. Usually, she would have just started throwing as many electric bolts at the thing as she could possibly gather, but the risk of attacking the beast and accidentally hitting Ryan instead was too great. Ryan turned to Leighton and whispered, "I'm going to distract it. When I do, you run. You got that? Run. Get as far away from here as fast as you can." Without waiting for her response, he ran towards the monster.  He started running circles around the thing, drawing its attention towards him. It reached out with one of its monstrous claws, attempting to knock him down, but each time it just barely missed him. When the monster finally struck him, he didn't see it, only felt it. It stopped him in his tracks instantly and hit him with such force that it felt like all the air had been knocked out of him. The monster struck at him agai
